An indoor golf and entertainment social club located in a former military hangar has opened its doors.
Hangar Club, located at 7600 E. First Ave., marked its opening Feb. 1. The 22,000-square-foot venue, which includes 10 state- of-the-art Trackman simulators, a central bar, private and open lounges and seating throughout, is open to the public and available to rent for private events. The club offers golf instruction from PGA pros, weekly league play and professional club fittings.
“Located in the heart of the former Lowry Air Force Base, the iconic building dates back to World War II, and its scale, open layout and natural light immediately caught our attention as the perfect space for what we envisioned Hangar Club to be, a premier indoor golf and entertainment venue unlike any other indoor golf facility in Colorado, reminiscent of historic golf and social clubs but inviting and open to all,” said Daren Schmidt, a local real estate developer and Hangar Club founding partner.
Hangar Club is located in a repurposed hangar structure with large amounts of natural light and open space. Built in 1942, the building originally functioned as part of the armament school for the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force, according to the club’s website. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
“Given its historical significance, our team was deliberate in preserving the exterior and interior features of the building, including the expansive steel beams and windows used in the building’s original construction, and honored the legacy of the building and Lowry in the Hangar Club name,” Schmidt added.
The developers acquired the building in summer 2022 for $5.5 million, according to previous reporting. The building’s redevelopment cost a total of $2.5 million.
